Obun Hawaii is 50 years young this year and continues to grow and adapt to the changing demands for printed and mailing materials. Obun was founded in 1970 as a company that printed Japanese materials for the U.S.  Market. Initially, Obun started as a translation company, but began offering commercial printing services in 1974, at the height of consumer’s demand for the printed paper products. Owned by a Japan company, Obun offered Japanese typesetting services and began working with many of the Japanese tour companies to produce the all-important Japanese visitor guide books for Japanese visitors. In 1988 Obun purchased American Printing which then allowed Obun to become a full-service printer that could better service the entire Hawaii community.
Obun has continually added services to help customers meet the need to promote their products and services to their customers. In 2010 Obun acquired Fulfillment Corporation of America which expanded their printing capabilities and added a fulfillment and warehousing division.
Today, Obun Hawaii, owned by Shizuoka Shimbun, has incorporated quality offset and versatile digital print technology and developed an efficient, high-quality mailing division to take on the increased demand for direct mail.
Obun is poised to be one of the leaders in providing marketing solutions in the printing and mailing industry in Hawaii.
